CPC Scientific Advances Green Chemistry Approaches for Scalable TIDES Manufacturing

Green Chemistry and Sustainability in TIDES Production
The rapid expansion of commercial-scale TIDES programs, driven in part by growing demand for GLP-1 and other metabolic therapeutics, is increasing pressure on the pharma industry to reduce solvent consumption, minimize waste, and improve process efficiency across the full manufacturing lifecycle.
As production of peptide- and oligonucleotide-based therapeutics continues to scale, the environmental footprint of manufacturing has become an increasingly important consideration for CDMOs, innovators, and their partners.
Solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) is solvent-intensive by nature. Large volumes of dimethylformamide (DMF) and other process solvents are typically required to support coupling, deprotection, and washing steps at scale. DMF represents one of the largest contributors to the environmental footprint of SPPS because of the volumes required, while also representing a significant cost driver in peptide manufacturing.

By improving process efficiency and reducing manufacturing burden, the approach generated meaningful cost efficiencies for the client while strengthening the resulting product’s market competitiveness.
Together, this body of work reflects CPC Scientific’s wider “going with the compound” strategy: aligning capacity expansion, technical investment, and regulatory infrastructure with the expectation that a growing number of clinical-stage peptide and oligonucleotide programs will advance toward commercial production over the next three to five years.
