Medelpharm co-hosts solid dosage training seminar

Beynost, France: – Research-based manufacturer and powder compaction specialists Medelpharm has joined pharma giant Merck to host a one-day technical workshop on the future of solid dosage direct compression.

The training course is designed for scientists, lab technicians, engineers and managers working in small molecule formulations in the pharmaceutical industry. The workshop will focus on formulation and development of drugs, and optimization of process development for large-scale production.

The one-day workshop “Pave Your Way to the Future of Solid Dosage Production”, is being held on September 13 with a two-part practical and technical training syllabus.

Best-in-class technologies

The workshop will showcase complementary technologies from both companies, with hands-on demonstrations using the latest Medelpharm STYL’One Evolution Multilayer Tableting Instrument, with advanced simulation and modeling capabilities.

Quality by design

The morning theoretical session will be held at the Hôtel Logis in eastern Lyon, France, co-hosted by Medelpharm Corporate Business Development & Communication Director Ingrid Coyle and Gilles Rochefort, of Merck. Contributions will include presentations from Mike Frodsham of Quay Pharmaceuticals, talking on direct compression of liquisolid formulations, and Dr. Jan Henrik Finke, of TU Braunschweig, describing the fundamentals of compaction processes.

The morning session will also hear from Marie-Joelle Céladon of Merck on ‘Challenges of pharmaceutical formulation’ and from Régis Cazes of Medelpharm on incorporating Quality by Design (QbD) into development at lab scale, using the STYL’One R&D press.

Optimizing silica carriers

After lunch, the workshop will shift activities to Medelpharm’s recently opened laboratory in nearby Beynost, for demonstrations of advanced techniques, such as direct compression at different cycle rates, production of mi-layer tablets and evaluating tablets for disintegration, hardness, friability, weight, etc.

The technical session will also include detailed analysis of the advanced technology incorporated into Parteck M-200 as well as exploration of best approaches to API loading procedure and solubility enhancement with silica carriers.

The training course is also supported by Sotax, who specialize in pharmaceutical testing solutions.
