German-based IT specialist tec4check GmbH is a systems partner for the printing and processing industry. It has developed innovative pharmaceutical print scanning solutions that ensure the quality of all digital printed products across every packaging, labeling and insert process step.

The MediaCheck family of pharma print inspection software packages was developed by tec4check to ensure maximum printing quality by automating the detection of errors and deviations.

Tec4check products assist pharma companies uphold their responsibilities to check the accuracy of all printed products, as well as those generated by partners.

MediaCheck pharma print inspection solutions

Tec4check was conceived as a creative partnership between pharma print experts Dietrich and Robert Mägerlein of the specialist companies Euker Marburg and Pharma Druck Dresden and software engineers Enrico Rabe and Dr. Gerriet Backer.

Their aim was to develop a family of digital proofing and inspection software packages specifically adapted to the print and packaging needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

The result was MediaCheck, a series of software solutions that digitally compare pdf files with scanned images at the pixel level to identify even the smallest deviation from specified design.

MediaCheck’s fast and reliable detection of deviations saves time as well as costs in checking folding boxes, package inserts, labels and all other secondary packaging in little time and with minimal manpower. The system identifies every deviation from source image with user analyzing results, evaluating and commenting on any deviation from ‘norm’. Result reports can be saved as a PDF or printed out.

Comprehensive experience with regulated industries allows tec4check to help clients introduce computer-assisted checking of printed goods that is compliant with the necessary standards.

MediaCheck Variants

MediaCheck is available in three variants to serve different types and sizes of pharmaceutical enterprise.

MediaCheck Light
The starter package is designed for single workstation checking, focusing on sequential processing, one test at a time. This is a conventional stand-alone solution with a streamlined easy-to-use interface that guides the user through each step in the proofing process. MediaCheck Light offers the same proofing power in a small, easy-to-learn and cost-efficient package.

MediaCheck Medium
The ‘middle’ package is also designed for single workstations but allows ‘background’ parallel processing. The packages allows checker to work on further tests while earlier ones are still processing. Jobs are stored, so that the user can go back to earlier results or add further samples to existing jobs. The user interface remains fully available during any checking process.

MediaCheck Workflow
Based on full client-server architecture for maximum power and flexibility, MediaCheck Workflow supports multi-station checking. With this package, all processing takes place on the server, with the user able to add as many Mac OSX or Windows ‘client’ workstations as desired. MediaCheck Workflow allows a high throughput checking network, with certain tasks assigned to particular client stations, batch processing for some tasks and the ability to prepare jobs in advanced of samples being available. It also allows users to pause processing on one task to start working on another.

MediaCheck expansions
One expansion module allows users to decode Braille content and determine deviations from Braille standard, with dot height measurement and other tests. (MediaCheck Workflow only).

A second optional module, available for all MediaCheck packages, allows checking of booklets and leaflets, allowing multi-page PDF files to be compared against multiple sample scans in one simple step.

Products & Services | tec4check GmbH

MediaCheck Light offers the same core artwork and text proofing power as Medium or Workflow, packaged in a small, easy-to-learn and cost-efficient single user package.

This starter package is designed for single workstation checking, focusing on sequential processing, one test at a time. This is a conventional stand-alone solution with a streamlined easy-to-use interface that guides the user through each step in the proofing process.

All versions of MediaCheck allow the comparison of multiple ups (multiple copies of the same reference or different references) that are automatically located, rotated and identified.

Versions and Expansion

MediaCheck Light is available in two versions:

Digital

In digital mode, MediaCheck Light Digital can be used to check and compare PDF files (source versus scanned image saved to PDF).

Professional

MediaCheck Light Professional can also be used to compare PDF files against ‘raw’ scanned images and other raster images.

While PDF files are intended to have the same appearance everywhere, a print on paper or other material is something very different from a computer file. The Professional version of MediaCheck Light allows the content of a PDF file to be compared against the scan of printed media. Our software filters out all format differences to isolate only the deviations from original prepress design.

MediaCheck Light can have the following expansion:

Multi-page Module

Both versions of MediaCheck Light accept the up-loadable MediaCheck expansion multi-page module designed for checking of booklets and leaflets. This allows multi-page PDF files to be compared against multiple samples in one single process.

  • Ability to store Jobs, so that the user can go back to earlier results
  • Ability to add further samples to existing jobs

MediaCheck Medium offers the same core artwork and text proofing power as Workflow, but is packaged as a compact, easy-to-learn and cost-efficient single user package, focusing on sequential processing, one test at a time.

MediaCheck Medium can be used in two versions:

Digital
In digital mode, MediaCheck Medium Digital can be used to check and compare PDF files (source versus scanned image saved to PDF).

Professional
In professional mode, Medium can also be used to compare PDF files against ‘raw’ scanned images and other raster images.

While PDF files are intended to have the same appearance everywhere, a print on paper or other material is something very different from a computer file. The Professional version of MediaCheck Medium allows the content of a PDF file to be compared against the scan of printed media. Digital print proofing software packages

Digital print proofing software packages

tec4check Logo

Products & Services | tec4check GmbH

MediaCheck is a family of products that digitally compare scanned images or PDF files with source PDF files to detect errors. This compact, easy-to-learn and cost-efficient package is able to detect even the smallest deviations, including pixel-sized flaws, spots or font changes.

MediaCheck allows pharmaceutical and life sciences companies to check the quality of delivered packaging by scanning and comparing them with a PDF file. The system leads the user through each deviation from original design, allowing it to be individually evaluated and notated. The final results report can be saved as a PDF or printed out.

This quick and reliable detection of deviations saves time as well as cost, allowing a single person to check a wide range of cartons, package inserts, labels and many other packaging goods quickly and with ease.

Experience with regulated industries has allowed tec4check design MediaCheck to generate necessary documentation.

Software Packages

MediaCheck’s design focuses on providing users with ultra-accurate control combined with minimal inputs and supervision. This uses sequential processing, one test at a time. This is a fully stand-alone solution, featuring a streamlined easy-to-use interface that guides the user through a simple four step proofing process:

  1. Define the job by loading source pdf file
  2. Load or scan target image sample
  3. Evaluate result
  4. Generate correction protocol

The software takes care of everything else automatically. For example, when a user defines a job and adds references, their location and rotation are automatically identified and oriented, with colours and geometry optionally adapted to allow comparison to take place.

The system is highly configurable and adaptable to individual needs and workflows. It is also easily scalable to the throughput needed, available in three versions, MediaCheck Light, MediaCheck Medium and MediaCheck Workflow.
