Gdansk, Poland: – Aldevron, the worldwide service organization specializing in plasmid DNA and protein production technologies, antibodies, and custom services, has teamed with Polish-based specialists Phage Consultants to keep its operations clear of bacteriophage infections.

Aldevron manufactures plasmid DNA for research, clinical, and commercial applications.

“Every enterprise accepting large amount of biological samples from outside have to accept the risk, that some of them may be contaminated by phages. It is the risk, which can be minimized when proper procedures are used. The most effective are customized procedures created for particular facility and type of work,” explained Phage Consultants CEO Dr. Marcin Los.

Aldevron’s President and CEO Michael Chambers said it was vital to the CRO/CMO to keep its processes free of bacteriophage and other contaminations.

“We rely on Marcin and his team at Phage Consultants to prevent such infections,” said Chambers.

    Bacteriophages: problem and solution

Phage Consultants is by far the world’s most qualified consulting group in preventing contaminations that are either caused by bacteriophages or where phages can be used to combat other and potentially more dangerous infections.

“Their expertise in these areas is unsurpassed and their dedication to customer service is outstanding. They have helped Aldevron with host cell selection, new facility design, and the development of screening methods to test incoming plasmid samples. This allows us to provide a higher level of service and security to our clients,” said Mr. Chambers

    Process integrity

“Bacteriophage contamination is a very important issue to the field of biological manufacturing. It is important for life science CMOs to have a partner like Phage Consultants to ensure product and process integrity,” he added.

    About Phage Consultants

Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria. First discovered around 1915, phages play an important role in viral biology, used to elucidate DNA viral reproduction through lytic and lysogenic cycles. They have been used for almost a century as alternatives to antibiotics and can have therapeutic effect against multi-drug-resistant strains of many bacteria.

Based in Poland, Phage Consultants is a contract research and manufacturing organization that specializes in bacteriophage detection and characterization and production. Phage has become a world leader in using the power of bacteriophage technology in bioprocess infection and contamination control and assisting companies whose production is based on microbial activities in preventing phage, bacterial, fungal and viral contaminations.

Phage Consultants are specialists in the field of bacteriophage biology with specific expertise on phage activity in bioprocessing. Its team provides unique assistance to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, offering a range of services from personal training to consulting and process optimization in phage growth limitation. The company also advises and assists clients in the development of new production facilities.
