Calcium-derived compounds
Introduction
Magnesia has more than three decades experience in calcium compounds, which have played a core role in the company’s history and development.
Calcium (Ca, No. 20) is a mineral that is essential to health and nutrition. The human body contains more calcium (largely in bones and teeth) than any other mineral. Calcium plays a key part in the functions of the muscular, circulation, nervous and blood-clotting systems. The mineral contributes to the normal function of digestive enzymes and plays a key role in the process of cell division and specialization.
Calcium compounds are indicated in treatment of bone conditions including osteoporosis, rickets and osteomalacia. Calcium is also used for muscular cramps, pre-eclampsia, and reducing the risk of colon and rectal cancers.
In diet, calcium compounds are used as an antacid and to reduce phosphate levels in people with kidney disease.
The organic compounds, such as calcium carbonate, citrate, chelatecalcium citrate, lactate, gluconate and aspartate, exhibit wide bioavailability making them particularly useful in medicines and nutrition.
Magnesia offers a wide range of organic and inorganic compounds derived from calcium to the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries. These compounds are supplied in MagGran® granular form and in the Magnesia powder and other forms detailed below.
Benefits
All Magnesia-supplied calcium compounds are selected for purity, nutraceutical quality and optimum bioavailability.
Magnesia maintains very high service levels with samples available immediately and orders commissioned and packaged according to customer requirements, with Just In Time (JIT) delivery.
For each product, full documentation is available that detail each step from production to final delivery, to correspond with international pharmacopoeias and regulatory requirements (see Quality & Certification section below).
Product portfolio
All Magnesia calcium compounds products are specified to European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur.), US Pharmacopoeia Convention (USP), German Pharmacopoeia (DAB), Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) and International food E-number standards. Compounds are grouped by process.

Quality & Certification
Product standards and documentation is defined by international pharmacopoeias, by the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) or the food law of the European Union. Upon request Magnesia can also provide data formatted for European Certificates of Suitability (CEP) or US Drug Master Files (DMF) providing all relevant information about the substance. Magnesia can also provide data to support health claims made under European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) requirements.
All Magnesia processes are certified to ISO 90001 standards and follow HACCP hygiene management protocols.
