Linden, Belgium: – Belgian clinical research organization AML is increasing its strength of native Dutch- clinical research professionals to meet growing demand for its services within the Netherlands.

Up to mid 2013, AML provided its services across the Benelux regions using Belgian-based staff. However, this model has now begun to change, as AML’s founder and CEO Anne-Mie Lenaers explained.

“With the increasing need for clinical trials support in the Netherlands, we have begun to recruit highly qualified clinical research professionals already based there,” said Ms. Lenaers.

“Engaging local research professionals has several advantages for us and our clients. For one thing, they are in the best position to verify if protocols are in compliance with Dutch medical practice in their country, to adapt study documents to local requirements and negotiate budgets according to local health insurance and organizational structures,” she explained.

Better outcomes

“We also find they can better investigate and determine potential obstacles, as well as limiting factors for successful implementation of the clinical trial; and, provide solid recommendations for project adjustment.”

“This is very important since our experience is that human and socio-cultural factors play key roles influencing the effectiveness and outcomes of clinical trials. Understanding the local setting, social structure and cultural context are all key factor for success,” Ms. Lenaers said.

“There are also practical advantages, of course, like Dutch language skills, reduced travel cost and times, need for overnight stays and therefore better quality of life for our people, “she added.

AML recruited its first Netherlands-based research professional in mid 2013 and now has two full time staff working in Holland.

“We will be looking to increase our strength there as the number of Dutch projects increases,” said Anne-Mie Lenaers.
